Normas éticas
The Hombre y Desierto Journal adheres to the ethical principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), promoting integrity, transparency, and responsibility in academic publishing in anthropology, sociology, history, and social sciences/humanities. All involved parties (authors, reviewers, editors) must act with honesty, impartiality, and respect, avoiding any form of discrimination. These guidelines are designed for the environment of electronic journals in Open Journal Systems (OJS).
1. Authors' Responsibilities
- Originality and Plagiarism: Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under simultaneous evaluation in other journals. Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism and redundant publication, is prohibited. The journal will use anti-plagiarism software to verify originality. Authors must properly cite all sources and obtain permissions for third-party material, following COPE guidelines on integrity.
- Authorship: Authorship is limited to those who have made significant contributions to the work (concept, data, analysis, or writing). A corresponding author responsible for communication must be indicated. Non-authorial contributions (e.g., technical support) must be acknowledged in the acknowledgments.
- Conflicts of Interest and Funding: Authors must declare any conflict of interest (financial, personal, or institutional) that may influence the research or its interpretation. All funding sources must be disclosed transparently, in accordance with COPE.
- Research Ethics: Authors will ensure respect for the rights and welfare of participants (e.g., informed consent, anonymity, no harm), complying with local ethical regulations (such as ethics committees or IRB) and considering cultural sensitivity, especially in anthropological or social studies.
- Error Correction: Authors will notify significant errors detected after submission and collaborate on corrections or withdrawals, following COPE procedures for handling errata and retractions.
2. Reviewers' Responsibilities
- Impartiality and Confidentiality: Reviewers will conduct objective, well-founded, and timely evaluations in a double-blind peer review process. They must declare conflicts of interest (e.g., personal or institutional relationships with authors) and abstain from participating if they exist. Manuscript confidentiality is mandatory; using information for personal purposes is not allowed, in accordance with COPE.
- Review Quality: Reviewers will identify possible cases of plagiarism, citation omissions, or ethical infractions, and suggest constructive improvements without personal criticism.
3. Editors' Responsibilities
- Publication Decision: Editorial decisions will be based on the academic merit, originality, and relevance of the manuscript, without biases based on gender, origin, or affiliation. An external and impartial peer review process will be used, following COPE. The final publication decision for all articles rests with the Editor.
- Transparency and Confidentiality: Editors will protect the confidentiality of manuscripts and participant data. They will handle ethical complaints through formal investigations, ensuring an opportunity for response from all parties.
4. Procedures for Ethical Infractions
- Minor Infractions (e.g., citation errors): These will be corrected through errata notices published, notifying the authors.
- Serious Infractions (e.g., plagiarism, data falsification): These will lead to manuscript rejection or article withdrawal from OJS and databases. Involved institutions will be notified, and if necessary, a retraction notice will be published, following COPE guidelines.
- Reporting Infractions: Any complaint must be supported by evidence. Investigations will be confidential and follow COPE flowcharts for handling complaints.
5. Open Access and OJS
- The journal promotes open access under Creative Commons licenses, with no publication costs for authors.
