Abstract
There are few theoretical explanations about the migratory phenomenon in Chile, which is due to a limited review of concepts, sources of study and the lack of comparative studies of international migratory movements and the analysis of contemporary migrations at a global level. One aspect of migration that is not usually developed are the theories that explain migration in general. There is also a lack of theoretical and methodological debate on international migration. However, at an international level, the analysis of migration is providing abundant research and publications of socio-anthropological and economic nature. The article analyzes the theoretical frameworks related to thematic areas that have been a permanent concern of researchers. The first is related to the origins and causes of migration or the level of macrostructural analysis. The second has to do with a microstructural approach. And, finally, there is the socio-anthropological approach which has to do with acculturation and the attitudes and expectations of the immigrant as well as those of the host society.
